A nonacademic book which might be useful as supplmentary material
Axelrod, Alan, & Holtje, Jim (1997). 201 Ways to deal with
difficult people. New York, McGraw-Hill (150 pages).
Axelrod writes "popular business and communications
books" while Holtje is "Director of International Client Services,"
Washington, D.C. The book contains no references or bibliography. The basis of their
claims are not described or otherwise documented. Other than the blurbs about who the
authors are on the backcover, there is no attempt to establish credibility.
This is a large print book on 7 inch by 7 inch paper. It has a two
page introduction followed by 201 numbered paragraphs divided by 20 topical headings: You
are not alone. Bosses from hell. Colleagues from purgatory. Employees from hunger. Clients
from New York. Silencing a screamer. Riposting rudeness. Outmaneuvering schemers.
Navigating the egotists world. Care and feeding of passive-aggressive people. Lazy
no more. Beating up bullies. Crushing constant critics. Puncturing perfectionists.
Outmanipulating the manipulative. Surviving the stubborn. Neutralizing morale busters.
Tackling the taciturn. Functioning with fault-finders. Creative venting. No cartoons.
